Substance Abuse

Not to be confused with full-blown addiction which is best treated at a facility designed just for that. This is for people with a problematic relationship to a substance, but it is not taking over their life. Substance abuse is a maladaptive coping mechanism, which means a person uses it to cope but it is a coping mechanism that creates more problems than it solves. Substance abuse entails deceptive thinking so it’s impossible to have the kind of objective thinking you need to make a change.

I provide support, clarity and understanding of this dynamic, with patience and no judgement. I can educate you on what works and what doesn’t, as well as begin to heal the wounded parts of you that trigger the substance abuse. Together we can come up with an emotional and practical plan for recovery.
